Awareness at the Klangtherapie festival

13.07.19

Hello, dear Klangtherapie Festival visitors!

It is our heartfelt wish that EVERYONE feels safe and comfortable. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen by itself. To make the festival as inclusive and “aware” as possible also means that racist, sexist, sexualized, homophobic, anti-disabled, adultist and all other forms of discrimination will not be tolerated! People who cross boundaries will be rigorously expelled from the field of honor. As a general rule, be sure that everything you do together is based on mutual consent. Consent! Asking questions has never broken anyone's back and prevents unwanted assaults.

What does “being aware” actually mean?
“Being ”aware" describes a concept that deals with how to deal with behavior that disregards physical, psychological and personal boundaries in (public) spaces. Awareness means creating and raising awareness of inequalities and dealing with them productively. Awareness means mindfulness and consciousness - not only in dealing with those affected. Awareness is an attitude and an action that takes responsibility. Awareness work therefore aims to create non-discriminatory social spaces with all those involved.
Awareness = consciousness, sensitivity, alertness

What does the awareness team at the Klangtherapie festival do?
In general, “awareness teams” help to organize events so that as many people as possible can feel comfortable there.
The work of our awareness team includes

Providing a safe place and therefore first point of contact for difficult situations, with referral to professional support organizations if necessary.
Support in oppressive and/or marginalizing situations.
Offering knowledge in the form of books, talks and conversations that participants can access to help them deal with awareness issues that may be new to them.
A respectful approach to all those present that takes into account self-localization, self-chosen names and pronouns that are perceived as appropriate and clearly places them above ascriptions to others.
Inviting participants to reflect on the current event and to express criticism of it or, for example, of group dynamics or individuals (and to remain anonymous if they wish).

We are very much looking forward to exchanging ideas in workshops, talks and discussions.

Who are we and where can you find us?
For small and large (mental) emergencies or if everything is just getting too much for you, come to us! We take care of you, always have an open ear and a quiet place in our quiet tent or in the Safe Space caravan. Come by or ring through on: 0176-50865211.
You can also get help at all the bars with the code word “Is Luisa there?”. But you can always talk to us on the grounds too. You can easily recognize us by our pink safety vests.

Finally, it is important for us to say that we do not have personal experience of all forms of discrimination, but we are aware of various structural forms of discrimination and adhere to your definition of discrimination.

Let's live the change together now.
